Our signature dress in an earthy gold, dyed with Himalayan Rhubarb.

The perfect frock to take you through the seasons, in an exclusive resist printed design. Designed with a bit of structure and elegance around the shoulder. Roomy through the bicep, bust and upper back for movement, and of course - it has pockets. The handwoven fabric has a weighted silky feel due to the dye process, with a beautiful soft drape.

Our smock dress is equally at home paired with sandals and a straw hat for a summer stroll, barefoot on the beach, or boots and a cardigan for a classic cooler weather look. Excellent layering piece.

A hand drawn floral design with a butterfly motif, which was hand printed using a resist paste of gum arabica and lime in Ajrakhpur, Gujarat. The floral pattern with butterfly motif is exclusive to Rani & Reine, and was drawn by our founder, Sarah.

We've added a contrast hem, cuff and facing by incorporating our seed pod brown fabric, which was inspired by the earthy sheen of Gulmohar tree seed pods.

Pair with our Wide Leg Pant in Seed Pod. Also available in Gulmohar red.

*All of our products are limited edition, and are custom dyed, woven and stitched by hand in micro batches.

STORY

Where it all began: our first design, inspired by day dresses worn during our travels during the hot summer months in India in 2018. The first prototype for this dress was designed and hand stitched at our home in the Fall of 2018. It then passed through two pattern makers before making its way to India in 2021, where it was stitched into our first sample. Further minor adjustments were made to perfect the fit when we visited our manufacturing partners in March 2022.

This dress was designed to merge comfort with elegance, and to feature the beautiful custom made fabrics we incorporate into our designs. Tailored around the shoulders, with a beautiful drape over the bust, and a refined neckline that provides the flexibility to dress it up.

The print was inspired by a beautiful allamanda vine ( Bengali Ghonta Phool) and a Lemon Pansy Butterfly, both found one summer at our co-founder Arindam's family home in Guwahati, Assam. Designed by Sarah, the printing block was cut by master block carver Mukesh Prajapati and the printing was done by master Block Printer Sufiyan Khatri, in Gujarat, India.
