The floaty summer dress of your dreams. Indigo butterflies the colour of the sky, scattered across a landscape of pure unbleached indigenous cotton.

Part of our exclusive Kala cotton collection, this dress is handwoven from a unique old world Indian cotton which has been revived in the Kachchh Desert of Gujarat. Kala cotton is rainfed, and requires no pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.

Wide straps and a shallow V neckline gives you all the breezy comfort on a hot summer's day, and the freedom to move without gaping at the underarm and neck. Side seam pockets for collecting shells and trinkets, and a matching belt if you prefer to cinch in at the waist.

The fabric has a breezy soft drape and slightly rustic hand, perfect for summer weather. Natural slubs give the fabric a beautiful depth of character.

Perfect for a stroll at the market, and an excellent layering piece for Fall.

Pair with one of our Indigo Shawls. Also available in Mustard, and as a tank top.

Seatile pairs the Float Dress with our Butterfly Shawl styled as a head wrap, and Sabeth pairs it with our Boat Pants in Seed Pod Brown.

STORY

The search for a hot weather dress that is cooling, but with a strap wide enough to cover bra straps and a flattering fit while providing coverage in all the right places. Dance and twirl to your heart's content. This was the inspiration for the Float Dress and Float Tank.

The butterfly motif was the result of a collaborative design effort with our weaving partners in Kachchh. Our founder Sarah was familiar with a motif often used in weaving from Bhuj (a village in Gujarat) called damru, a type of two-headed drum. Turned sideways, it could be interpreted as a geometric butterfly. The butterfly theme can be found throughout our debut collection, in both woven and block printed motifs - inspired by a Lemon Pansy butterfly that had alighted on a plant one summer at our co-founder Arindam's family home in Guwahati, Assam.
