A luxurious lightweight shawl, incorporating uniquely beautiful open lacework motifs. Perfect year-round. Drape it around your shoulders on cool summer evenings, layer over a sweater or dress in the Fall or bundle it around your neck under your winter coat to keep out the cold.
Knit with fine handspun yarn, it is a wonderful example of the fine craftsmanship of our artisan partners. The motifs are reminiscent of the starry night sky and sunsets over the mountains in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh.
This shawl is lighter weight and slightly smaller than ourshawl 'Sapna'
Limited Quantity! We currently have only one of these in stock - we'll have more coming in the Spring.
Each of our wool accessories is crafted by hand by the artisan women of Kullvi WHIMS in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh, incorporating locally sourced wool from sheep who graze high in the mountain passes throughout the year. You will find beautiful variation in yarn thickness and colour in these handmade pieces, making each unique and one of a kind.
In 2019, when we first travelled to visit and work with the women of KULLVI whims, we brought along a few techniques to try out. One of those techniques was creating a knitted triangle.
The women left after the workshop that day, and arrived back the next day with 9 different mini-shawls. They'd each added in perfectly balanced lacework motifs, and unique borders. No small feat, this is a testament to their high level of skill.
Due to the popularity of our first shawl design 'Sapna' - we asked for a second design to be made.
Kusum took up the task, and created this beautiful new shawl using a combination of motifs. She used a star motif in the body of the shawl reminiscent of the bright starry nights in Himachal, she added bobbles down the centre spine of the shawl, and created a stunning scalloped border which reminds us of sunrises and sunsets over the mountains in Naggar, where the women live.
This shawl is handcrafted with lightweight yarn - in contrast to our first shawl design, which is more blanket-like, this one is light as air.
Handwash in cool water, do not agitate. Lay flat to dry in shade. For more information, visit ourcare page.
