In 2019, when we first travelled to visit and work with the women of KULLVI whims, we brought along a few techniques to try out. One of those techniques was creating a knitted triangle.
The women left after the workshop that day, and arrived back the next day with 9 different mini-shawls. They'd each added in perfectly balanced lacework motifs, and unique borders. No small feat, this is a testament to their high level of skill.
Due to the popularity of our first shawl design 'Sapna' - we asked for a second design to be made.
Kusum took up the task, and created this beautiful new shawl using a combination of motifs. She used a star motif in the body of the shawl reminiscent of the bright starry nights in Himachal, she added bobbles down the centre spine of the shawl, and created a stunning scalloped border which reminds us of sunrises and sunsets over the mountains in Naggar, where the women live.
This shawl is handcrafted with lightweight yarn - in contrast to our first shawl design, which is more blanket-like, this one is light as air.
